AKON PASSED ON SIGNING DRAKE, SAYS HE ‘SOUNDED LIKE EMINEM’ Akon helped discover stars including Lady Gaga and T-Pain, but there’s one superstar he missed out on signing–Drake. In a new interview with VladTV, Akon revealed that he had the chance to sign October’s Very Own around 2004-2005, but passed because he reminded him of another rapper. Akon says he first became familiar with Drizzy through another famous Canadian, Kardinal Offishall. But after listening to his demo, he couldn’t help but think of Slim Shady. “Kardinal Offishall brought him to me in 2005, I think it was, or was it ’04?” said Akon. “It was right before ‘Best I Ever Had’ blew up, because at the time, it was more mixtape-ish. At the time, believe it or not, Drake sounded more like Eminem. With that demo that I heard, he sounded more like Em.” The demo was a stark contrast from Drake’s breakthrough hit, “Best I Ever Had.” “You can see the difference between that demo and ‘Best I Ever Had.’ It wa...

Taking to Instagram, Tekashi revealed that the project will arrive on Sept. 4. The title is a reference to his high-profile racketeering case during which he snitched on members of his former gang. “September 4th, the album’s coming. Let’s pay respect to all the fallen soldiers,” he said while pouring out a bottle of vodka on the streets of Chicago. The 13-track project has already spawned four singles—”GOOBA,” “YAYA,” “PUNANI,” and the Nicki Minaj-assisted “TROLLZ,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. TattleTales TattleTales follows Tekashi’s 2018 debut Dummy Boy, which was released just days after his arrest. The project debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, spawning collaborations with Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, and Gunna. Tekashi, who was released from home confinement earlier this month, will ce...

Roddy Ricch’s new album may be coming sooner than you think. While on vacation in Cabo this week, the L.A. rapper went live on Instagram where he announced that his next project is on the way. “Album coming soon as f**k,” he told eager fans. However, it’s unclear if he was serious. “Ni**a still No. 3 on the Billboards. I gotta give myself some time,” he added. Roddy has been dominating the charts all year long. “The Box” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 11 weeks, while “Rockstar,” his collaboration with DaBaby, remains No. 3 on the Hot 100 after seven weeks at No. 1. In a recent interview with GQ, he opened up about the timeline for his sophomore album. “Could I drop a new album right now? Yes. Will I? No,” said Roddy. “It’s really not about it being ready or not ready. It’s more about the timing. I really just drop when I feel like it.” When the follow-up to his 2019 debut Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial does arrive, he promises greatness. “The next album is going to...
